Where are you from?
Where are you from?
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

…Does it really matter where I lived?

or

Does it matter more who created me?

Be fucking blunt and admit that you just want to know my ethnicity.

Why must I make the ignorant feel at ease?
Why must I answer their “questions” politely?

Why must YOU feel
that YOU are the one
to determine
WHERE I BELONG?

How many times have you looked at me
categorized me
and wished
that I was everything you wanted me to be?
Or
Were you disappointed that I do not fit into your box of a reality?

Am I not the exotic zoo animal you paid to see?
Did you wish that I was younger?
Or
Are you shocked that I am older?

…Am I going to ever be good enough for you King?

…Would you ever admit that your ancestors would have raped me?

Dear colonialist,
Please don’t forget
YOU were the one that made me.

So why beat me?
Why murder me?
Why judge me?

Tell me colonialist.

Am I not White enough for you?

Am I not Brown enough for you?

Am I not Asian enough for you?

Why must I explain my looks to you?

I am dark.

I am small.

I am mixed.

BUT I AM TALL

My voice is loud.

AND I AM PROUD.

Tell me colonialist.

Where am I from?
Where am I from?
Where am I from?
